THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED: Away Beyond the Sea and Five Writing Nuggets to Sharpen Your Work

Jan 16, 2021 — 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Location: Virtual/Online (get directions)

We hope to reschedule, but in the meantime, we are working on more great workshops and monthly events coming soon!

Genaye Domenico

After obtaining her degree, Genaye Domenico earned her PADI dive master in Honduras, completed an internship off the southern tip of Africa with white sharks, worked in loggerhead sea turtle conservation in Cape Verde, Africa, spent one summer managing a sea turtle summer camp in North Carolina, and lived remotely to gather salmon migration data during the sockeye runs in the Kenai Wilderness Refuge. Genaye also worked on commercial fisheries vessels out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska as a NOAA contracted Ground Fisheries Observer. Currently, she is waiting to return to Mozambique to continue her labors for the Marine Megafauna Foundation, an organization specializing in whale shark and manta ray data collection and conservation.

Her career path was balanced with many, many waitressing and bartending shifts. Genaye loves traveling or tide-pooling, and is always happy to geek out about anything under the sea.

Carol Berg

Carol Berg majored in mathematics at Rice University, in part so she wouldn’t have to write papers. But while earning her mathematics degree, she took every English course that listed novels on the syllabus, just so she would have time to keep reading.

Somewhere in the midst of teaching math, raising three sons, earning a second degree in computer science at the University of Colorado, and a software engineering career, a friend teased her into exchanging letters written “in character.” Once Carol started writing fiction, she couldn’t stop.

Carol’s fifteen epic fantasy novels have earned national and international acclaim, including the Geffen Award, the Prism Award, multiple Colorado Book Awards, and the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature. She has been twice voted the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Writer of the Year.

Carol’s newest work, written as her alter ego Cate Glass, is a fantasy adventure series called Chimera about a rag-tag quartet of sorcerers who take on missions of deception and intrigue in a world where magic earns the death penalty. The first book, An Illusion of Thieves, was released in May 2019 by Tor Books. On May 30, 2020, Colorado Humanities and Center for the Book announced that An Illusion of Thieves won the 2020 Colorado Book Award in the fantasy/science fiction category.

A Summoning of Demons, the third adventure of the Chimera, and her third novel under the name of Cate Glass, will arrive at book stores on 2-2-2021.

Carol lives in Colorado at the foot of the Rocky Mountains with her Exceptional Spouse.
