Write Brain: A Peek Behind the Critique Group Curtain

Jun 16, 2020 — 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM

Location: FREE! Online Via Zoom (get directions)

The Rose-Colored Ink critique group began in 1991 as The Wyrd Sisters when Pikes Peak Romance Writers started an open critique group. They’re still going strong today! Not only have these ladies supported each other professionally and personally over the years, but they’ve combined creative forces to create The Dogwood Series,a sweet romance series featuring a matchmaking dog.

The first half of the presentation will talk about how the group formed, how it operates, and how it has functioned over time and distance, through good times and bad. The second half will address the creation of Dogwood, a series of novels and short stories written by various members of the group, all set in the fictitious town of Dogwood, Colorado.

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions from four of the eight members of this long-standing and successful group!

Speakers will be Laura Hayden, Pam McCutcheon, Angel Smits, and Jodi Anderson, four of the longest term members (Karen Fox has technical issues otherwise she’d be in this group as one of the series creators.)

Pam McCutcheon

Pam McCutcheon is the author of romance novels and how-to books for writers under her own name, and the Demon Underground YA urban fantasy series under the name Parker Blue. Pam’s latest releases are updated e-book versions of her popular Writing the Fiction Synopsis and The Writer’s Brainstorming Kit (with Michael Waite) as well as self-published e-book versions of her romance backlist and fantasy short stories. Pam/Parker now works full-time as a writer, editor, speaker, and as the “Parker” half of Parker Hayden Media, an assisted self-publishing business. She can be found on the ’net at pammc.com or parkerblue.net.

Evangeline Denmark

Evangeline writes stories with hints of whimsy, glimmers of fantasy, and strokes of the supernatural. Her young adult steampunk fantasy, CURIO (Blink, 2016), sets coming of age and first love against the backdrop of steam-propelled greed and societal repression. She lives in Colorado in a house stuffed full of animals and creative people that would surely go to ruin were it not for the watchful eye of a cattle dog named Willie. You can find her on all the usual social media spots by searching her weird name or at www.evangelinedenmark.com

Jodi Anderson

Jodi Anderson is a published author with Harlequin and Bell Bridge Books. With a background that includes magazine/newspaper writing, novels, and novellas, Jodi is currently a teacher, writes fiction, presents workshops for writers and uses any opportunity to gain control of a microphone in front of a captive audience.
