Removing Word Metadata for The Zebulon

Word files contain metadata. This is information about the document that is not displayed as content. The most common piece of metadata personal information is the document author. This metadata must be removed from you uploads to be compliance with the contest.

The Zebulon is a double-blind contest. Judges do not know the submissions’ author, and the authors do not know who the judged their submission. Your entry can be disqualified if this information is inadvertently exposed.

Note: example below are from Word 2016

TO REMOVE THE METADATA ON WINDOWS:

Open the document and go to:

File -> Inspect Document -> Inspect Document

Click on the Inspect button and inspect your results

Here, you can see there is embedded personal information. Click on the Remove All button and Reinspect.

When done, Save As your document as a new file just in case there are problems with the metadata removal.

Upload this new file.

TO REMOVE THE METADATA ON MacOS:

Open the document and go to:

File -> Properties… -> Summary

Remove any non-compliant metadata and press OK

When done, Save As your document as a new file in just case there are problems with the metadata removal.

Upload this new file.
