The first issue of the news magazine was published in February, 2002 as Pikes Peak Writer. Susan Rust, chief editor and comma police-person, was responsible for attracting top writers to the magazine, making it highly respected in the writing community. As the magazine grew, Rust added assistant editors Karen Jenista and Maxine Davenport. When increased responsibilities at her full-time job forced Rust to resign as editor in January 2004, Maxine Davenport became editor. Karen Jenista remained as an invaluable assistant editor. Beginning with the September 2005 issue, previous PPWC Director Kirsten Akens took over as NewsMagazine Editor. In July 2006, Pat Kennelly began acting as interim editor, Debbie Meldrum took over in August 2007. Our current editor, Mandy Houk took her place at the helm in November 2008. To distinguish the news magazine from the organization PPW, the name was changed to Pikes Peak Writer NewsMagazine in January 2004. Martha Lancaster has been responsible for design work on the NewsMagazine since its inception. The purpose of the NewsMagazine is to keep members informed of upcoming workshops and conferences, to announce members' publishing successes, to introduce noted writers, and to publish instructive articles of interest to writers. It also serves as a vehicle for publication of articles by members. | NewsMagazine Editor, Mandy Houk |
