American Icon 2 Winners:

Audience Favorite: Bret Wright
Prize: Free one-night stay at the Wyndham Colorado Springs for two.

Best Pacing: Bret Wright
Prize: One hour one-on-one consultation and professional editing of five pages by writer/editor Laurie Wagner Buyer.

Best Imagery: Natalia Brothers
Prize: Review and Critique of synopsis by Pam McCutcheon, author of Writing the Fiction Synopsis: A Step-by-Step Approach

Best Chick Lit: Ron Heimbecher
Prize: Personal reading of a proposal by agent Kristin Nelson of the Nelson Literary Agency.

Best Voice: David Farrell
Prize: Critique of a proposal by Five Star editor John Helfers (and review for possible publication).

Pikes Peak Writers Presents:
The Inaugural American Icon Competition

The first PPW presents American Icon, an open competition with the opportunity to read a three-minute excerpt from your writing, to be heard by a three-judge panel, was a great success.

Aspiring novelists were invited to read for three minutes from their original work from any genre. Entries were judged by a three-person panel: Hollywood mogul Brad Schreiber, publisher Charles Kaine, and bestselling novelist Jodi Dawson. In the style of "American Idol," the judges gave a brief verbal critique after each performance.

Winners:

Grand Prize: Morgen Leigh for Bloodbrothers -- best overall entry

Audience Favorite: Giles Carwyn for Damn Dog -- favorite entry determined by the popular vote

Best "Chick Lit": Victoria Thurman for "he Dating Dilemmas of Delilah Dunnfield

Best Potential for Adaptation: Gil Porat for Above the Dentate Line

Best Speculative Fiction: Geoff Gillette for From the Shadows

Honorable Mentions:

Aaron Brown for The Gospel of a Disgruntled Brick

Wanda Daniel for Kiss of Insignificance: A Woman's Love Story
